Sacred Heart matriculation girls High School

Sacred Heart Matriculation Higher Secondary School sited at Church Park in Chennai is an English medium school for girls, established on September 9, 1909 by Nano Nagle, the founder of the Presentation Sisters who came to Chennai in 1842.

Initially, the school only allowed admissions to European children as it was functioning under the European Code as a middle school since 1910. However, from 1932 onwards Indian students started getting inducted in the school.

Sacred Heart attained affiliation to the Madras University in 1952 and became a private matriculation school. In the year 1954, the first batch of Sacred Heart Church park students appeared for the matriculation exams.

In 1980, Nano Nagle’s vision of education the less privileged sections of the society saw the light of day when the Sacred Heart Tamil Medium School was established within the Church Park campus for the under-privileged children; it now boasts student strength of 600.
